109 years ago tonight, the 14th April, 1912, RMS Titanic struck the Iceberg less than 400 miles from the coast of Newfoundland. Using the powerful Spark-Gap Transmitters on board, Jack Phillips, the Titanic's senior wireless operator, sent out hundreds of messages as the Cruise Liner began to sink.
"CQD, CQD, SOS, De MGY" "We are putting women and children into the boats".
These messages, tapped out tirelessly in Morse Code, travelled all across the Atlantic Ocean. They were received by ships far and wide, including RMS Carpathia and SS Californian, and incredibly, by a young man, 3,000 miles away in the Attic of Gelligroes Mill - Arthur "Artie" Moore.
